History

The Rocky View Foundation is a non-profit association, established in February 1964 to provide low rental housing units for the seniors residing in the Municipal District of Rocky View and the Province of Alberta.

The first facility built for the Foundation was the Rocky View Lodge in Crossfield. The Lodge originally accommodated fifty residents in thirty-two suites. The site was expanded in 1985 by ten additional suites, and renovated and expanded in 1997/98 bringing the total to forty-four suites.

In 1977, Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane was opened. The Big Hill Lodge accommodated sixty-five residents throughout the two-story structure. In 1982, the facility expanded to seventy-five suites including the addition of a multi-purpose activity room.

In 1995, the Foundation took the local lead role in the provincial initiative of agency consolidation. Effective April 1, 1995, the Beiseker Housing Society, Diamond Jubilee Association and Dr. Whillans’ Management Association were amalgamated into the Rocky View Foundation. The Foundation’s portfolio expanded to include three Manors and five social housing units in addition to the previously mentioned Lodge.

In 1997, the Foundation returned the operation of the five social housing facilities back to the province and concentrate exclusively on seniors' housing.

FACILITIES

Lodges

The Senior Citizen Lodges are bedroom style suites with shared dining and entertainment areas. The Rocky View Foundation provides affordable accommodation, maintenance-free housing, basic room furnishings, food service including meals and snacks, housekeeping services, building security, twenty-four hour non-medical staffing, referral to community-based services, laundry service, entertainment and life enrichment activities.

The Foundation accepts functionally independent seniors who are sixty-five years of age or older, except that a married couple with one spouse under the age of sixty-five will be accepted.

Lodge applications are prioritized according to need and residency requirements. Potential residents complete the lodge application package and arrange for a personal interview and tour with the Lodge Manager prior to tenancy consideration.
