We nominated long-time volunteer Karen Nordgaard for the inaugural Alice Modin Award in 2017. This award honors a senior who has provided long-term volunteer service to their community, promotes volunteerism by or for seniors, or whose efforts have had a provincial impact. Karen meets all those criteria, so we were not surprised when she won!
Karen is an asset to Rocky View Foundation and an advocate for seniors’ housing in Bragg Creek. Not only has she volunteered with us for many years, but she established Calgary's first food bank, a youth support agency, a legal guidance organization, and built a homeless shelter. It is a credit to Karen that these organizations are enduring and thriving today.
Congratulations, Karen, on your much-deserved award. We couldn’t be more proud!
